Let the rewards rain down.

People are always asking me when they can stop rewarding a behavior, to which I reply, "How much do you want the behavior to continue?" For some reason, many people have a difficult time at the thought of rewarding 'forever'. I'm not sure why, but they do.

The bottom line is this: behavior that is rewarded on a consistent basis is behavior that will be repeated. If you want a behavior to continue, then you will want to keep rewarding it.

The best way to make this happen is to teach your dog to "Wait for the rain". I know it sounds weird, but we always know that it will rain sooner or later, right? It has to. It is the way of the world, a constant, a known fact.
